AFCEA London Chapter – Virtual Meeting.

The guest speaker for our meeting on 2nd December will be Steve Vance – Director Space, Defence and Intelligence, CGI.   The title of Steve’s talk will be “Big Data Strategy for Defence” –Developing big data solutions for MOD processing Cyber, Space and Operational data using Open Source big data platforms, which if developed right, are secure, scalable and avoid vendor lock in enabling Front Line Commands to integrate data silos and sift information advantage from the masses – Fast.

Steve is a software delivery expert, agile technologist and thought leader with over 18 years’ experience developing software and data processing applications for CGI in many domains across Civil, Defence and Space. This has included the use of both propriety but also open source technology which offer a unique opportunity to mitigate risks posed by vendor lock in, benefit from community approaches while being cost effective. Steve has led Agile Teams leveraging such technology for programmes of work supporting MOD Space Domain Awareness, as well as recently leading development for the European Space Agency of a bespoke Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM) for monitoring Global Navigation Satellite System Spectrum such as GPS and Galileo for cyber-attack from GNSS Interference relied on by many Front Line Command Capabilities.
