AFCEA UK – Virtual Meeting

After a few months’ absence, our first ever AFCEA London Chapter “virtual meeting” will be held on Thursday 30th July 2020, at 17:00. Ciaran Martin, the outgoing CEO of the NCSC will give a short “fireside chat” followed by a brief Q&A session. Ciaran needs absolutely no introduction, but we are delighted that he has been able to make time in his very busy schedule to talk to us, just before he retires. It should be fascinating.

This is a free event for AFCEA members and guests, but in order to be able to attend, you must pre-register by booking on line at https://uk.afceachapters.org/london-bookpay/

AFCEA London – Virtual Meeting

Our meeting on 1st October will commence with a short virtual AGM.  Details of the Election of Officers and Committee have already been circulated by email to those eligible to vote.

As a Chapter, we have covered a lot of ground regarding cyber security as it relates to “terrestrial” assets, but we have not looked at cyber threats to space and satellites, so this will be a fascinating presentation.

Dec 1 @ 17:00 – 18:15

AFCEA London – Virtual Meeting

The Guest Speaker for our meeting on 1st December will be Wg Cdr Ben Sharp – SO1 Space Capability Delivery, HQ Air Command.  The title of his presentation will be “What next for Space in the MOD?”  and will be followed by a facilitated Q&A session.  This promises to be a fascinating presentation and follows on very neatly from some questions and comments raised during our 1st October meeting.  It should appeal to both Young AFCEANs and long-established regular members alike.

Wing Commander Ben Sharp is a Royal Air Force Engineer Officer, whose career has focused on enabling the command and control of British military operations, in the UK and worldwide.  An advocate for information-led decision making, he has led large teams of personnel and negotiated at an inter-governmental level to deliver information systems critical to supporting frontline personnel and theatre commanders alike.  On graduation from the Defence Academy’s Advanced Command and Staff Course in 2019, he returned to Headquarters Air Command to join the rapidly expanding team that is delivering space capability for the RAF.

AFCEA London – Virtual Meeting

Unfortunately, due the current Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, we are unable to make what has become a very popular and much appreciated pilgrimage to “a very prominent BT Venue”.  BT are still very keen to continue their support for AFCEA in the UK  and so our Speaker for our meeting on 14th January will be Dr Nicola Millard.  Nicola is a BT psychologist with BT Enterprise and her talk will be along the lines of “people, technology and the future of work”.   With many people still being encouraged to work from home and an increasing number of corporates significantly downsizing their office space requirements, this should be fascinating evening – sadly without the view from the top of the Tower! ☹  The up-side is that there will be no risk of anyone getting stuck in the lift!

This meeting is open only to pre-registered attendees. Persons not on the official list will not be admitted.

To register, go to AFCEA UK Website here: https://uk.afceachapters.org and click on “Tickets” in the January Meeting box.
