AFCEA West – June 2019 – Appreciation Dinner for John Kirby and Address by AFCEA Regional VP @ Brickhampton Golf Club
Jun 13 @ 18:45 – 21:15

Address by AFCEA Regional VP and Appreciation Dinner for John Kirby

As you may know John Kirby has handed over as President after 12 years at the helm, during which time he has only ever missed three meetings. It would therefore seem fitting that we somehow mark his handover properly and say a big thank you to him for sterling efforts as President. To that end the Committee has suggested that the June event will be a relaxed affair in which we have a little longer in the bar for socialising and networking before going through for dinner.

AFCEA West – Sep 2019 – “Defence innovation has acquired the same pejorative contradiction of terms as military intelligence/precision. Discuss!” – John (JW) Wariner – Director Consulting Services at CGI @ Brickhampton Golf Club
Sep 19 @ 18:45 – 21:15

“Defence innovation has acquired the same pejorative contradiction of terms as military intelligence/precision. Discuss!”

John (JW) Warriner – Director Consulting Services at CGI

JW will wear two hats for this talk: both his Reservist airman’s hat and his industry consultant’s cap, to look at Defence Innovation from both side of the coin. He likes to be challenging, perhaps sharing a few home truths, in order to raise the bar and to encourage a discussion so that those present can glean some real takeaways in the sense of connecting information innovation with UK Defence and National Security.

AFCEA West – Oct 2019 – AVM Chris Moore 2* Dir Ops at ISS

“What we might learn from the Battle of Britain about the contemporary multi-domain integration challenge”

AVM Moore will consider the Battle of Britain as a multi-domain operation and highlight its resonance with contemporary information age warfare. He will argue that the successful defence of the United Kingdom was not just a triumph of technology but a result of the well-rehearsed and executed organisational system implemented by Air Chief Marshal Dowding, which ensured that actionable intelligence and timely information was placed into the hands of those that could do something about it, drawing some parallels with the challenge faced by Defence today.
