Our May meeting will be held on Thursday 12th May. We will once again be back at the Hub8 Brewery and our guest speaker for the evening will be. The title of his presentation will be Peter Wilson – Public Sector CTO for EMEA, Pegasystems Inc. The title of his presentation will be “The Evolution of Government Digital Services”.

Peter was formerly HMRC Head of Solution Architecture and Feasibility Study Lead on the UKs first Major Digital Service Self-Assessment Online

AFCEA UK Southern Chapter Event.

The next AFCEA UK Southern Chapter event is taking place at the Bombay Sapphire Distillery on Wednesday 25 May.  The distillery is in Laverstoke, between Whitchurch and Overton in North Hampshire.  The speakers for the event will be Amanda Shakir from DSTL and Robin Fisk from NEXOR.  They will be talking about the Single Information Environment research project and other projects within the DSTL information and intelligence portfolio.

Complimentary welcome drinks will be served from 6pm in the iconic glasshouses, before we proceed inside at 6.30pm to hear the keynote speakers followed by a Q&A session.

A further complimentary drink will be served as we then proceed into the Mill Bar for a buffet supper alongside a cash bar.  During the evening, Bombay Sapphire are also offering a 15-minute gin ‘mini-Masterclass’ to those who wish to discover more about the art of mixing gin cocktails.  For anyone who doesn’t wish to take part in the ‘mini-Masterclass,’ there is an opportunity to deduct £10 off your ticket price.

To encourage new attendees, we are also offering a £10 discount to those who have never attended an AFCEA South event previously.  Please pass on details of the event to colleagues who may never have heard of AFCEA South and encourage them to come along at a discounted price!

AFCEA London Chapter – Face-to-Face Meeting.

The AFCEA London Chapter ‘Emerging Leaders/Young AFCEA’ sub-committee have organised a fantastic event at RAF High Wycombe, on 7 June 2022.  Our previous event originally scheduled for March 2019 was cancelled due to COVID, but we’re back again with a fantastic event.

This is a great taster for RAF life and gives you a real appreciation for RAF Digital and other technical elements of the RAF.  Please see the attached ‘Poster’ for more information.

  • Come to RAF High Wycombe and learn from our 2 Star Chief Digital Information Officer on his strategy for the RAF going forward.
  • Personnel from 591 Signals Unit from RAF Digby will be doing a demonstration on Cyber Threat Awareness and Defensive Monitoring in Cyber.
  • The Station Commander will come to talk and give an introduction to RAF life.
  • You will get to visit ‘Bomber’ Harris’ Office that he used in World War 2, and the tunnels he and others used to get around the camp during the war.
  • You will get a brief from a Cyberspace Professional, who works within Space Command, to give you a brief of the unit and his role in RAF Space domain.
  • You will learn from people who work in RAF Digital about their roles and different pathways for your opposite numbers in the military.

Finally, we will be heading to the Station’s beautiful Officers’ Mess for a networking session, with drinks provided.  A great opportunity to expand your network into different industries and businesses – including the military.

The cost for the event will be £30 per person and places are limited to a maximum of 30 attendees.

We reach the final event of the season, and we are going to end it with style – but please note the change of day and date to Tuesday 14th June. We are very fortunate to have Mr Steve Hyde, the Multi Domain Integration (MDI) Head, within the Integrated Battlespace Operating Centre at DE&S, to come along and talk about MDI.  Although MDI are the current buzz words around the MOD, many may still wonder what does it really mean and what does it involve?  Now is the opportunity for you to gain an insight from one of the leading MOD authorities on the subject.  The synopsis for the event is:“Multi Domain Integration (MDI) – Challenges & Opportunities. This presentation will cover what is MDI from a high level strategic and concept perspective around achieving greater integration; it will outline programme structure and approach to MDI as a Change Programme; it will then focus on the MDI Design Authority challenges and opportunities, including engagement with Industry to explore the challenges and opportunities.”For anyone who wants to get up to speed on the latest developments on this subject, then this event is not to be missed.The details are, Tue 14 Jun at The Hub8 facility in Cheltenham, starting at 1830 with drinks, followed by the talk and networking until 2100.  There will be a fee to cover locations costs, drinks and hot food.  If interested, please contact Matt Treadwell our events coordinator at  to confirm a place.

This year, our theme will be Accelerating Into The Information Age – Innovation, Integration, Implementation

It is three years on from our last TriCyCIS Conference and we are now bombarded with things like Integrated Review, Integrated Operating Concept and Multi-Domain Integration.  TriCyCIS 2022 will probe some of the challenges in implementing these things in the realms of Cyber and CIS – what is speculative, what is achievable, how we might do it (and what benefits it will bring!).

AFCEA London Chapter – Face-to-Face Meeting.

The second meeting for our 2022 / 2023 Season, will held be on Thursday 6th October. We are very kindly being hosted by IBM UK, at their 20 York Road, London SE1 7NDT offices, close to Waterloo Station and The London Eye.

The theme of the evening will be “Why is quantum computing strategically important in maintaining technological advantage? Why is it an attractive career option for young people today and what can we do to encourage more talent and investment into the sector?”

The format of the evening will be along the following lines:

There will be three 10 minute “Ted” short presentations from invited speakers. (Further details on the speakers will be announced shortly).

  • A Government speaker
  • An Industry speaker from VC/Investor background
  • A Young IBM Quantum Ambassador

Following the presentations, there will be a facilitated Q&A panel session.

Drinks and refreshments will be served and then guests will be invited to form into 3 groups for a quick tour of the following ‘topical’ demonstration areas:

  • Reinforcement Learning (AI racetrack) + Robotics (SPOT)
  • Mayflower Autonomous Ship (real world application of AI)
  • Quantum Computing

We know that this will be a very popular and absolutely fascinating evening at a great venue. Numbers will be limited to eighty people, on a first come first served basis, but we would encourage any corporate members to bring along a grad trainee or apprentice, who can attend at the mil / gov discounted rate.

AFCEA UK West Chapter – Face-to-Face Meeting.

The first AFCEA (UK)West event will be held on the 13 Oct 22.

It will be held at the Innovation Bridge in Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) Abbey Wood in Bristol, where we will be the guests of James Gavin and the Future Capability Group (FCG). There will be a talk presented by Richard Bloomfield, Head EW & CBRN and although a title is to be confirmed, it may well cover EW capabilities in light of international events.

Timings will be the usual, with the start at 1830 and finish by 2130.  Costs will be Non-Members £40, AFCEA members £30 and Civil-Service / Military £25. Drinks and a meal will be included in the price.  We would like to see more Corporates encouraging younger personnel to attend (e.g. grad trainees / apprentices – not just Biz Win / Biz Dev) and place the costs against training budgets as Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

This will be a popular event, but there will be a limit on numbers, so please register your interest with Mike Jensen, our new events coordinator @ , stating your membership status.

For this event will be undertaking due diligence checks for security purposes.

This is a great opening to the season, and I look forward to welcoming you then.
