AFCEA London Chapter – Face-to-Face Meeting.
The second meeting for our 2022 / 2023 Season, will held be on Thursday 6th October. We are very kindly being hosted by IBM UK, at their 20 York Road, London SE1 7NDT offices, close to Waterloo Station and The London Eye.
The theme of the evening will be “Why is quantum computing strategically important in maintaining technological advantage? Why is it an attractive career option for young people today and what can we do to encourage more talent and investment into the sector?”
The format of the evening will be along the following lines:
There will be three 10 minute “Ted” short presentations from invited speakers. (Further details on the speakers will be announced shortly).
- A Government speaker
- An Industry speaker from VC/Investor background
- A Young IBM Quantum Ambassador
Following the presentations, there will be a facilitated Q&A panel session.
Drinks and refreshments will be served and then guests will be invited to form into 3 groups for a quick tour of the following ‘topical’ demonstration areas:
- Reinforcement Learning (AI racetrack) + Robotics (SPOT)
- Mayflower Autonomous Ship (real world application of AI)
- Quantum Computing
We know that this will be a very popular and absolutely fascinating evening at a great venue. Numbers will be limited to eighty people, on a first come first served basis, but we would encourage any corporate members to bring along a grad trainee or apprentice, who can attend at the mil / gov discounted rate.
AFCEA London Chapter – Virtual AGM.
The AFCEA London Chapter will be holding its Annual General Meeting and Election of Chapter Officers on Thursday 20th October at 17:00 hrs. This will again be a virtual event and the Election notice will be sent out to current AFCEA London Chapter Members shown on the AFCEA International database as being affiliated to the London Chapter as at 31/08/2022.
Voting will be conducted via email with the results being announced during the virtual AGM
This short meeting is open only to pre-registered attendees and the closing date for bookings is 12:00 – 14th October 2022. There will be no charge to attend and no guest speaker.

Our Guest speaker for the evening will be John Linwood – CTO Defence Digital and the title of his talk will be “Getting the basics of digital transformation right – why focussing on the urgent is hurting our reputation”. John will reflect on his experience from big digital transformation programmes outside of the MoD and outline some lessons for Defence and National Security.
With nearly 40 years’ experience, John is a senior technology executive and Board member, having successfully delivered large scale technology led transformation, innovation, and services for some of the biggest names in the technology industry including Microsoft, Yahoo and the BBC. John is also an experienced Non-Executive Director (with FTSE and AIM listed companies and a UK Government Agency) and a founder of 3 successful technology start-ups. His experience brings a high degree of technology, commercial and leadership ability operating at a global scale that has proven itself repeatedly throughout his career.
